Got The Last AirBender on Blu-ray earlier this week. After having done the traditional pre-Christmas-eve-sampling of the Christmas buffet yesterday evening we sat down and watched it.
If you bear in mind that it’s really a kids movie, it was okay. The special effects was quite good but the entire story was a bit superficial and felt like it was compressed. Like it was told in fast forward. It got totally shafted by the so-called critics on it’s release which I would say was undeserved. I have never seen the original series that is the origin of the movie so I cannot comment on how well it follows that. From the user reviews, the fans where apparently not happy with it.
The Blu-ray disk itself was, as the medium obliges, very good. Excellent picture quality and well-balanced sound. The LFE channel made my subwoofer work nicely without overdoing it.
The sad part is that it was clearly intended to be only the first in a series and with the generally negative reviews the follow-up ones might not happen which is really a shame. I really would like to watch the entire story.
