Storm Forged – Good entry in the series.
Overall, another good, light and entertaining read. Continue reading Storm Forged – Good entry in the series.
Overall, another good, light and entertaining read. Continue reading Storm Forged – Good entry in the series.
Well, this is going to be a short review since this book, the 12th instalment in the series, is really more of the same which, in this case, is not a bad thing. Continue reading Song of Darkness – More of the same which is good.
Overall the books have a nice mix of dialogue, action, discoveries, twists and other “glue” tying the story together. It is not exactly a WOW experience but it is a decent enough science fiction adventure and I have enjoyed reading these first books in the series. Continue reading Slip Runner books 1 to 3 – Pretty decent sci-fi adventure.
This was a okay book but just barely. Continue reading Calamity Awakening – Okay quick read.
Well, I have to say that I did enjoy this book. BUT it is far from the best seller book that Amazon and a few other sites seems to want it to be. Continue reading Summer’s End – Decent but not at all the best seller Amazon and other sites try to make it.
Christopher Nuttall is one of my top favorite authors. With this particular book he is starting a new series and it is a really good start indeed. Continue reading The Chimera Coup – This was a really good start of a new series.
The story is more of a swashbuckling adventure than a regular science fiction story and that is what kept me reading. Continue reading Galactic Guardians books 1 to 3 – Borderline young adult but I enjoyed them anyway.
This was weird reading. I am almost ashamed to say that I found these books rather fun to read despite the fact that, in terms of science fiction these are really bad books. At the best books can be called science fantasy and young adult ones at that. Continue reading From Far Beyond books 1 to 4 – Bad but amazingly enough somewhat fun read.
What I liked about the book was the main protagonist, even though she is very young, that it has a solid story, that it is well written and the discovery/adventure type story. Continue reading A Beautiful Friendship – Decent enough YA novel in the Honorverse.
Overall this was a good book. Nice mix of adventure, fun dialogue, crime investigation, story arc progression and action. Continue reading Kingdom Come – Good book in the series.
At one time I quite liked Greig Beck’s books. His latest ones not so much though. It feels like he is just churning out books more resembling scripts for mediocre TV-shows rather than books. Continue reading Abyss – Not really worth the time I spent reading it.
The book is more or less one long stream of adventures and John overcomes anything that is thrown at him with ease that borders on the ludicrous. Still it was a very fun read and I think the next book in the series, schedule to come out this month, will easily go on my to-read list. Continue reading Violent Graduation: Rather unrealistic but fun read.
This is the second book in the Backyard Starship series and I have to say that our main protagonist, Van Tudor, and his merry band of adventurers as well as the story itself grows on me. Continue reading Red Bounty: Van Tudor and his merry band of adventurers grows on me.
Overall the story is a enjoyable light read perfectly suitable for some evening reading while relaxing in front of the TV with some equally light TV-show on the screen. Continue reading Earth Bound: Another new light story from Michael Anderle.
These three books in the Boundary Series was are quite different from the first three books. They are still good reading but I’m afraid that, to me, they are quite far from the five star rating I gave the first three. Continue reading Boundary Series 4-6: Good but not as good as the first three books.
Unfortunately my review of this book can be summarized in the note I made a bit more than 40% into the book which is “Bloody amateur hour in a rather contrived and messy plot”. Continue reading Treasure of the Deep: Lacking to say the least.
This was a pleasant surprise indeed. This is one of those books that left me with a WOW that was great feeling after the last page. Continue reading Grand Central Arena: One of The Best Books I’ve Read In A Long Time.
I kind of liked the blurb on this one so I went for it. It is a fairly decent adventure story somewhat in the style of Indiana Jones although Cain is no Indiana Jones. That has to be said. Continue reading Temple of the Jaguar: Decent enough small novella.
This is a fairly nice mixture of plain adventure, mystery and military science fiction. Continue reading Renegade Star Series: Quite nice sci-fi adventure series.
Here we go again with the usual clean up of reviews that I haven’t gotten around to write and I really wan’t to get them out of the way before the end of the year to nurture the illusion that NEXT year I will start with a clean slate and keep my reading and reviews going. Continue reading End of the year clean up
When reading this book I was really having a WOW moment because I was reminded of how far above most (not all but most) other authors that I read this author’s writing really is Continue reading House of Assassins: Only one word necessary, great.
The story is quite well written and I really like the kick-ass main protagonist. He’s as good in kicking ass the old-fashioned way as he is in running a battleship and planning fleet strategy. Continue reading Bound by Blood: Great military/vigilante adventure.
Maybe it is just the novelty having worn off but for some reason the first book pleased me more. It just felt more heroic and big time adventure. Maybe focusing more on the main heroes. That is not to say this is a bad book. On the contrary it is a very good book. Continue reading Empire Asunder: I didn’t like it as much as the first but it’s still very good.
I like these books for the amalgam between science fiction technology and an old fashioned sailing ship and British Empire universe. Carew is a great character and the stories are good old-fashioned pirates of the seas adventures. The kind where you would expect Erol Flynn or Burt Lancaster come swinging from mast to mast. Continue reading The Queen’s Pardon: I really hope Carew gets a proper command, in space, soon.
