From Far Beyond books 1 to 4 – Bad but amazingly enough somewhat fun read.

This was weird reading. I am almost ashamed to say that I found these books rather fun to read despite the fact that, in terms of science fiction these are really bad books. Violent Graduation: Rather unrealistic but fun read.

The book is more or less one long stream of adventures and John overcomes anything that is thrown at him with ease that borders on the ludicrous. Still it was a very fun read and I think the next book in the series, schedule to come out this month, will easily go on my to-read list. Empire Asunder: I didn’t like it as much as the first but it’s still very good.

Maybe it is just the novelty having worn off but for some reason the first book pleased me more. It just felt more heroic and big time adventure. Maybe focusing more on the main heroes. The Queen’s Pardon: I really hope Carew gets a proper command, in space, soon.

I like these books for the amalgam between science fiction technology and an old fashioned sailing ship and British Empire universe. Carew is a great character and the stories are good old-fashioned pirates of the seas adventures. The kind where you would expect Erol Flynn or Burt Lancaster come swinging from mast to mast.
