Publishing House Baen Books under attack from the left’s cancel mob.

I try to mostly stay out of the political debates since it is way too time consuming and usually attracts a bunch of nutcases screaming nonsense all over the place and telling everyone that do not agree with them that they are acolytes of a certain Bavarian (actually he was Austrian and should not have been allowed to serve in the Bavarian army but who cares anymore) lance corporal.

However, I recently read on the website of Larry Correia (and on Facecrap, MeWe etc…) that the left’s cancel mob is now targeting Publishing House Baen. Baen is a publishing house that focuses entirely on good and entertaining books, especially in the science fiction and fantasy genres. They do not apply politically correct filters to the books they publish and the authors they support. They do not force some form of perceived “rightthink” on their authors nor do they try to silence any form of perceived “wrongthink”.

Because they do not bend a knee to the left’s woke cancel mob it was of course only a matter of time until said mob was going to try and suppress this bastion of free speech, expression and thinking (not to mention good books) and it appears that some nobody has therefore written a completely fictional hit piece.

I post a couple of snippets of Baen’s reply here (the complete reply is in the post linked to below).

We have received no complaints about the content of the Bar from its users. That said, it has come to our attention that allegations about the Bar have been made elsewhere.

Of course it was none of Baen’s users making a complaint but someone just looking to ruin things for other people that do not adhere to their agenda.

It is not Baen Books’ policy to police the opinions of its readers, its authors, its artists, its editors, or indeed anyone else. This applies to posts at the Bar, or on social media, on their own websites, or indeed anywhere else. On the Bar, the publisher does not select what is allowed to be posted, and does not hijack an individual’s messages for their own purposes. Similarly, the posts do not represent the publisher’s opinion, except in a deep belief that free speech is worthy in and of itself.

So a publisher that got their role right. That is, it is not their job to tell other people what to think or what opinions they are allowed to have. Of course that does not sit well with the woke mob. Free thinking? We cannot have that!

Larry Correia is much better than me on formulating himself and to fisking bullshit articles so I have linked to his post about this nonsense here:

Publishing House Baen Books Attacked by Cancel Culture

In Larry’s article there is also a piece from David Weber, author of among other things the Honor Harrington series and one of the literary giants in the science fiction genre. Both Larry’s and David’s responses to this crap is worth reading but David Weber sums up my opinion pretty well in this snippet…

Which, in case you haven’t already deduced this, is in my opinion — I realize I am sometimes guilty of a certain lack of clarity — a pile of horse shit.
