Echoes of Empire – A few bad points but still a very enjoyable installment in the series.

This is the 11th installment in the Backyard Starship series and, although there are starting to appear signs that the series should perhaps conclude or change the main story arc to something new and fresh, it is still a quite enjoyable read. Continue reading Echoes of Empire – A few bad points but still a very enjoyable installment in the series.

The Last Hunter book 1 & 2 – Shaky start but improved in book 2.

The book is well written and I really liked the main protagonist but… I really disliked the story. So I said to myself that there is a chance that book two will pick up in a direction that is more palatable to me so I held off on the judgement until I had read it. Well long story short, it did indeed do so. Continue reading The Last Hunter book 1 & 2 – Shaky start but improved in book 2.

When Luck Runs Out: A solid entry in the Empire of Bones Saga.

I have to admit that the title made me procrastinate a bit before I dared open this book. Luckily, as far as I am concerned, the title is a wee bit more ominous than the actual story. Although I guess it is a fitting title for the 13th book in the series if you are inclined towards superstition. Continue reading When Luck Runs Out: A solid entry in the Empire of Bones Saga.

Bound by Honor: I had some issues with this one.

The writing, the characters and pretty much everything I mentioned before is still there. But, the pirate adventure and revenge aspect is pretty much lost and instead been replaced by solar system wide politics, conspiracies, betrayal and so on and so forth. That stuff is really quite far from my cup of tea no matter how good the writing is. Continue reading Bound by Honor: I had some issues with this one.

Oath of Vengeance: Book 2 in the Vigilante series is as good as the first one.

I liked this book as much as the first one. It is roller coaster ride of not only well done action by also plot development and character development. Brad continues to grow both his company and himself. He and his friends are indeed very likable kick-ass characters. Continue reading Oath of Vengeance: Book 2 in the Vigilante series is as good as the first one.

Reconnaissance in Force – Starts a new story arc in the saga.

Reconnaissance in Force is the continuation of Paying The Price but in a way it also starts a new story arc in The Empire of Bones Saga universe. In the last book our heroes finally came back home and even though they encountered a few issues that they had to solve with their usual application of sneakiness, technology and good old fashioned stuff that goes boom it felt like it kind of finished a first story arc. Once the dust settles we move over to this book where a new adventure starts. Continue reading Reconnaissance in Force – Starts a new story arc in the saga.

Paying the Price – Home at last but it is a mixed homecoming.

In this installment of The Empire of Bones saga Jared, Kelsey & Co finally finds their way back home. It is a mixed homecoming though. Although this book sees a bit of a lull in the fight against the AIs Jared and Kelsey are forced to fight against internal enemies instead. Continue reading Paying the Price – Home at last but it is a mixed homecoming.

Ghosts of Empire – This series continues to entertain me.

Here we go for another entertaining episode of The Empire of Bones saga. After the clusterfuck by the unbelievably incompetent Captain Breckenridge it is up to our friends to clean up the mess. This of course leads them into yet another adventure on yet another world of the former Terran Empire. Continue reading Ghosts of Empire – This series continues to entertain me.

Command Decisions – The adventure continues.

It seems like I cannot let go of this series until I have read all the books published. Command Decisions is book three of The Empire of Bones Saga and continues the adventures of Jared, Kelsey & Co. It is, naturally, in the same style as the other books which means it is a simple, fast paced and enjoyable space opera adventure. Continue reading Command Decisions – The adventure continues.

Empire of Bones – Easy to read and quite fun little space opera.

This book is not exactly a literary masterpiece but it is a quite fun and entertaining little space opera novel nevertheless. It is a fairly straight forward adventure story with the usual elements, a fallen empire, surviving factions trying to rebuild, monarchs and emperors rule, heroes are heroes and bad guys are bad guys. Naturally a lot action and a little bit of romance is thrown in. Continue reading Empire of Bones – Easy to read and quite fun little space opera.
