The Cruel Stars: Not as god as the other books in the series.

Now, as I wrote above, it is a good and well written story. If you like this kind of story you will find the book excellent. Personally I liked the original Ark Royal story better. It is more about the war, the aliens and action. This one was not so much my cup of tea. Continue reading The Cruel Stars: Not as god as the other books in the series.

We Lead -Another good read from Christopher Nuttall

Another good, solid read in the military science fiction genre from Christopher Nuttall. As the book blurb states humanity finally gets an edge over the enemy…or do they? It is an experimental device and a one shot one at that, and the enemies technical superiority when it comes to missiles are still there. This is a book with fierce battles as well as sacrifices. Continue reading We Lead -Another good read from Christopher Nuttall

Fear God and Dread Naught – Good solid military science fiction.

This is a good solid military science fiction read. It is the 8th instalment in the Ark Royal series and a worthy one. As usual there is a good story, likable (and not so likable) characters and some good solid action in space and on the ground. It was a very enjoyable book to read. Continue reading Fear God and Dread Naught – Good solid military science fiction.

Vanguard – A good start of a third story arc in the Ark Royal series.

Vanguard starts a third story arc (or trilogy if you so prefer) in the Ark Royal series. The Ark Royal series is one of my favourite book series and this book gives me no reason to change my mind. Vanguard is a good piece of military science fiction with some of the classical ingredients that I happen to like quite a lot like a strong hero, a set of mysterious alien invaders and plenty of space action. Continue reading Vanguard – A good start of a third story arc in the Ark Royal series.

A Small Colonial War – A good conclusion to the Warspite story arc in the Ark Royal series.

This is a very good book and I would not mind if Mr Nuttall continued with the stories in the Ark Royal universe. If nothing else I would really like to see one of those new Vanguard ships become reality and dish out some pain against whoever or whatever that got in their path. […] Continue reading A Small Colonial War – A good conclusion to the Warspite story arc in the Ark Royal series.

A Savage War of Piece – Not at all my cup of tea

A Savage War of Peace (Warspite #2) by Christopher Nuttall My rating: 6 out of 10 stars On her maiden voyage, HMS Warspite discovered Vesy, a world populated by primitive aliens, aliens whose culture had already been twisted and warped by human refugees from the First Interstellar War. Now, Captain John Naiser and his crew spearhead a diplomat mission to the alien homeworld, hoping to … Continue reading A Savage War of Piece – Not at all my cup of tea

Warspite: A new and somewhat different story arc in Nuttall’s Ark Royal universe.

Warspite (Warspite #1) by Christopher Nuttall My rating: 8 out of 10 stars Peace is not freedom. Peace is merely the absence of war. The First Interstellar War is over, but the Royal Navy still has plenty of work to do. As Earth struggles to recover from the bombardment, Captain John Naiser is placed in command of HMS Warspite – an experimental heavy cruiser – … Continue reading Warspite: A new and somewhat different story arc in Nuttall’s Ark Royal universe.

The Trafalgar Gambit : A great although somewhat tragic ending to the Ark Royal trilogy

The Trafalgar Gambit (Ark Royal #3) by Christopher Nuttall My rating: 9 out of 10 stars Humanity is losing the war. The once-mighty space navies have been crippled, officers and crew have been stretched to the limit and Earth herself has come under heavy attack. The end cannot be long delayed. For Admiral Smith and the crew of HMS Ark Royal, the stakes have never … Continue reading The Trafalgar Gambit : A great although somewhat tragic ending to the Ark Royal trilogy

The Nelson Touch – A worthy sequel to Ark Royal

The Nelson Touch (Ark Royal, #2) by Christopher Nuttall My rating: 9 out of 10 stars Ark Royal – the Royal Navy’s outdated space carrier – has won a smashing victory against the enigmatic aliens, capturing one of their starships and returning to Earth. Now, Admiral Theodore Smith and his crew are assigned to command a fleet charged with making a deep-penetration raid into alien … Continue reading The Nelson Touch – A worthy sequel to Ark Royal

Ark Royal – Great science fiction book

Ark Royal by Christopher Nuttall My rating: 9 out of 10 stars Seventy years ago, the interstellar supercarrier Ark Royal was the pride of the Royal Navy. But now, her weapons are outdated and her solid-state armour nothing more than a burden on her colossal hull. She floats in permanent orbit near Earth, a dumping ground for the officers and crew the Royal Navy wishes … Continue reading Ark Royal – Great science fiction book
