A while ago I got a I-want-a-new-gadget craving. So I got myself a new Galaxy S23 Ultra. Continue reading Got myself a new gadget.

This is not a review of a book or a movie but just some, unofficial, ramblings about CERN where I work. The tagline of this site ends with “…or anything else I feel like rambling about.” after all and I am in a rambling mode today. CERN or European Organization for Nuclear Research is my workplace. The name CERN comes from the original French name: … Continue reading My workplace, CERN.
What a horrible year. Continue reading Finally this horrible year is over.
This is going to be a bit of an unusual post since I normally do not write about things other than movies, books and, occasionally, computer and gadget stuff. However, the last days have been just ludicrous. Continue reading France is turning into a KGB state (aka overreacting to the Coronavirus).
Last month I attended a ceremony…celebrating my 25 year at CERN’s. Continue reading 25 f… years!
The story is yet another variation of the protagonist discovers that there are things that go bump in the night theme. Right know it seems like I cannot get enough of these kind of stories. Continue reading Waking Magic: Fairly enjoyable urban magic story
Well I guess it had to happen sooner or later. This is a 20+ books series after all. This is the first book in the series which left me a bit wanting at the last page. Continue reading Capture Death: Good but not the best in the series
This installment in The Federal Witch series was not really my cup of tea. I am sorry to say that I found it mostly boring. I actually felt like skipping ahead at times when reading the book. Continue reading Invisible Elder: Not my cup of tea.
Yet another take on vampires. Quite enjoyable urban fantasy. Continue reading Into the Fire: Yet another take on vampires, not bad at all.
The books in The Kurtherian Gambit series manages to stay reasonable true to their core story, more of the same if you want, and yet continue to be enjoyable reading (as in not getting boring) even after 19 books. Continue reading Ahead Full: More creative ass-kicking by The Queen Bitch.
Personally I felt that this book was the weakest in the series so far. It starts of quite well and hints of some cool new stuff but then it makes a U-turn and after that it just runs out of steam. It is still a read worthy book but personally I cannot justify more than three stars for this installment in the series. Continue reading Mage Hunter: A fairly weak addition to the series.
I really really have a gripe with time travel stories and I was afraid that this would be the first book in the series that I wouldn’t like.
Well, I was wrong. I liked it about as much as the other books which is a lot. Continue reading Time Strike: Really good despite the time travel aspect.
These books are borderline young adult books and the story and the characters are thereafter. I have liked every book so far though, even if I am much further from being young than I would like to be. Continue reading Night of The Unicorn: Pretty okay urban fantasy story.
The book is very enjoyable to read. There are the usual big space battles, preparations for battles and interactions between the characters and the various groups involved. I definitely look forward to the next book in the series. Continue reading The Forever War: Good, enjoyable read.
I had been planning on upgrading my old Playstation 3 for a while now. I was really keen on getting the Xbox One X (Scorpio) myself but it will be a while before it comes out and my daughter was really keen on getting a Playstation 4. So I decided that what the heck, I get a PS4 Pro now and later, once someone else … Continue reading Sony, what the f…?
This is an excellent book and a good end to the series. I was in two minds what rating I should give but in the end I decided that anything less than five out of five would be undeserved. Continue reading Wolf’s Bane: Good ending to a good series.
The story continues and Bethany Anne & Co are as fouled mouthed and ass kicking as ever. As usual the characters are great. Especially Bethany Anne. The interactions are … inspired. The action is as kick ass as it should be for a Queen Bitch. Needless to say my rating for this book is a full set of stars. Continue reading Never Forsaken: Another cool ass kicking ride with Bethany Anne.
A while ago I picked up my new Ultra HD 4K Blu-ray player and 9-channel AV receiver with Dolby Atmos and DTS:X to go with my new OLED 4K TV set. Since then I have had some experience with my new gear and I am indeed quite happy with it so here’s some ramblings from me about OLED, 4K, HDR and Dolby Atmos. Continue reading 4K goodness continued…
The continuation of Tyler Barron’s adventures in the war between the Confederation and the (communist) Union continues. On the whole though it was a soundly entertaining read. I am looking forward to the next book in the series. Continue reading Ruins of Empire: Good read even though I am a little irked by the ending.
I thought that I should just mention in case anyone noticed and are wondering, I am changing my ratings from X out of 10 stars to X out of 5 stars. Continue reading Changed from 10 stars to 5 stars.
I liked this book better than the previous book in the series. I felt it read more like a single book than a series of short stories even though the book is very much a series of different monster hunting stories tied together. It was much fun to read this one. Continue reading Sinners: Fun and highly politically incorrect MHI adventures.
This book is rather different from a lot of books that I have read. The story is not that uncommon: A lone child with special powers adventures into space. However, her powers and how they develop is rather unique and so is the setting. I really liked it. Continue reading Perilous Waif: Different, cool and a very good read.
This book was quite fun to read. At times it is perhaps a bit nonsensical, even childish, but on the whole I liked both the story and the main character. Continue reading Conjuring Quantico -Perhaps a bit childish at times but fun read nonetheless.
Windows 10’s tiles are abysmal. Not the ones that comes from pure apps pinned to the start page or menu (mostly at least) but the ones coming from pinning URL’s or folder locations. Since Microsoft Edge was introduced most pinned URL’s simply shows the Edge icon and grabs the, often way too long, page title from the site. To make matters worse you cannot change the icon nor the title as you can do with a normal desktop shortcut. Continue reading Tired of Windows 10’s abysmal tiles ?
