New Wolf – Good idea that went down the drain of Urban Porn.

New Wolf (Arctic Wolf, #2).
By J.R. Rain and H.P. Mallory.
My rating ⭐ 1/2 out of 5 stars.

A break-in at the local bar seems at first glance a routine case of vandalism, likely the result of high schoolers looking to score some free booze. Except…

No alcohol was stolen, there’s no evidence of an actual break-in, and the thief was clearly looking for something.

But what? Chief Ellie Matthews wants to know.

Meanwhile, as a new werewolf, her first official turning is rapidly approaching―and she’s seriously not looking forward to it. By all accounts, it’s going to be painful and super weird, and she just doesn’t have time for it.

Not when it turns out someone is hunting all the werewolves in town.

No shifter is safe, least of all the new chief of police, who just so happens to be Hope’s newest werewolf resident.

With the full moon fast approaching and a killer about to unleash unholy hell upon the citizens of Hope it’s up to Ellie Matthews to save the day.

The only problem is…she barely knows who she is anymore.

Or what she’s about to become…

Oh my this was a bit of a disappointment. When reading the first book in the series, which I gave a very brief review of in my Post Holiday Clean-up post, I felt it had some promise and there was a few things that I really liked.

Like for instance that the part where Ellie learns that werewolves are real wasn’t too rushed. Or that she is a cop and she really does some cop work.

Those things are still present in this book so so far so good.

I liked the parts with Ellie becomes part of the tribe and all that as well.

There was one thing though I didn’t care much about though and that was this constant drooling over this “sexy” werewolf that she just met.

Unfortunately the author decided to double down and this and turn a chunk of the book into urban porn with very graphical and detailed descriptions of their intimate exercises together. I’m not really a prude or anything like that but everything has its place and, in my personal opinion, the place for that is not in a urban fantasy book.

So I think this series goes off my to-read list.

    1. Not as far as I know.

Her main work is the Vampire for Hire series which I’ve quite liked reading. I’ve also read her Spinoza short trilogy, her Spider short trilogy and the first book in the Maddy Wimsey series and none of them turned into Urban porn like this one.
