When Luck Runs Out: A solid entry in the Empire of Bones Saga.

When Luck Runs Out (Empire of Bones Saga, #13) by Terry Mixon
My rating: ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ out of 5 stars

coverAfter years of battle, Kelsey Bandar and Jared Mertz are finally ready to face the master AI enslaving the Terran Empire. With just a bit of luck, this nightmare will finally be over. Only luck can run out just when you need it the most. Outnumbered and outgunned, they must salvage victory from certain defeat. Failure means extermination, invasion, and the loss of everyone they love. Can they beat the odds just one more time?

I have to admit that the title made me procrastinate a bit before I dared open this book. Luckily, as far as I am concerned, the title is a wee bit more ominous than the actual story. Although I guess it is a fitting title for the 13th book in the series if you are inclined towards superstition.

It is a good solid entry in the Empire of Bones Saga. Good writing as usual from Terry Mixon with plenty of action.

This book is pretty much a rollercoaster of successes and reverses. Plot twists are frequent and dramatic. Personally I prefer a slightly more linear story but what the heck, it’s a good book anyway.

Our friends slugs their way towards the goal of finally defeating the master AI and free humanity. But even if they do their struggles are far from over. Humanity is split and removing the control by the master AI may create a whole new swatch of problems.

Also, in the very few paragraphs, the book ends in quite a bit of a cliffhanger. I’m not a great fan of cliffhangers so I’m not sure how much I liked that but that’s life so…

I am indeed looking forward to the next instalment in the series.
