From the outer reaches of space to the small-town streets of suburbia, the hunt comes home. Now, the universe’s most lethal hunters are stronger, smarter and deadlier than ever before, having genetically upgraded themselves with DNA from other species. When a young boy accidentally triggers their return to Earth, only a ragtag crew of ex-soldiers and a disgruntled science teacher can prevent the end of the human race.
Well, I could write that this was a disappointment but, quite frankly, my expectations was not that high to begin with. Hollywood’s remakes of good old classics have been more miss than hit lately. This is a good example of it.
I am wondering whether the writer(s) actually watched any of the original movies, especially THE original but I am inclined to believe that they actually did not give a shit. This is clearly a work of someone with a below average intelligence.
I will not say that I did not enjoy parts of it, which is why it doesn’t get a single (or zero) star rating from me but overall this is an insult to fans of the franchise.
Obviously they tried to add some comic elements into it by introducing this bunch of loony bin candidates and although there were some funny scenes that kind of stuff would fit nicely in a A-Team movie, not in a Predator one.
The movie is just stupid and unintelligent in so many ways. Yes, the franchise is science fiction bordering on fantasy but the originals at least had some mediocrum of realism in them. This one throws that right out of the door. It is just so stupid that one wonders if the writers intentionally was trying to insult the audience. Strike that, the writers are probably so bloody stupid themselves that they do not understand their own stupidity.
For instance, we have this “doctor” that immediately turns into some female Rambo. We have the main protagonist’s wife who are told a totally ludicrous story about extraterrestrials and, unlike any sane person, just goes okay and grabs a gun. We have the totally over the top human bad guy that just wants to go off and kill everyone who has had contact with the predator or any of his stuff. And so on and so forth. The story is just bad, plain and simple.
Then the dumbass writers just had to succumb to the politically correct Hollywood mob and throw in some shit about climate change and how Earth was doomed. For f… sake! I do not care if you are on one side or another of that argument, I do NOT want that crap in anything that is supposed to be entertaining. I am pretty sure the dumbass writers do not know anything more about the subject than what they have read in sensationalist media but they thought it was the right (politically correct) thing to cram in.
Now, there was some enjoyable moments. The predators (even though the big predator walked around like he had shit his pants), the action and a few cool comments here and there. Overall however this movie was a missed opportunity and very much to the detriment of the franchise. When are the Hollywood asshats going to learn that they are shooting themselves in the foot over and over lately.
