What kind of idiots are running large corporations nowadays? Is there really no one in the management chain with a least a minimum amount of common sense? Also, do said idiots live in some kind of bubble where they never receive real life news so that they can learn from other people’s mistakes?
You can probably guess from the title of this post that I am referring to the latest, unexplainable as well as inexcusable Windows Update debacle created by Samsung where some idiot decided to disable automatic Windows updates so that they, according to a lame statement from Samsung, did not run the risk of having Windows Update overwrite some of their own software drivers. Personally I think the word drivers can be replaced with bloatware in that sentence.
I think that they have already been pretty universally condemned by the IT world for this epic screw-up but I just got so pissed of by this gargantuan stupidity that I had to add my own frustration to the blogosphere. Here are a few samples from PC World, TechSpot, Ars Technica. I especially like these two from Gizmodo and The Register since the titles reflect my own opinion about this debacle.
It is going to be a long, long time before I trust a Samsung product again. Even if they revert this policy quite quickly it is still a proven fact now that they have a number of employees, as well as a management, that are totally out of touch with reality and, as far as I am concerned, criminally negligent. I know that the PC division of Samsung is probably far from, say the TV division or the Phone division but to me Samsung is a tainted name right now.
Since the initial storm of, rightfully so, angered and frustrated articles about this epic screw up Samsung have came out with some lame denial which probably will only make these corporate bullshitters look even more bad.
It is not true that we are blocking a Windows 8.1 operating system update on our computers. As part of our commitment to consumer satisfaction, we are providing our users with the option to choose if and when they want to update the Windows software on their products. We take product security very seriously and we encourage any Samsung customer with product questions or concerns to contact us directly
I mean look at the above “message”. Apart from the first sentence, which more or less appears to be the usual gut reaction from someone caught with their paws in the cookie jar, it is simply the usual corporate nonsense by some overpaid and underskilled (in terms of real life human relations at least) lawyer.
I mean, get real you idiots! You do not in any way provide anything concrete in terms of disputing these allegations. As far as I am concerned, these allegations are 100% true until you provide some decent proof otherwise. The only question is whether you actually intended that your crapware would disable Windows Update on every reboot or it is just shoddy development and your quality assurance (as well as management) stinks!
