A television reporter and her cameraman are trapped inside a building quarantined by the CDC after the outbreak of a mysterious virus which turns humans into bloodthirsty killers.
Apparently this movie is a US remake of a 2007 Spanish horror movie called Rec. Consensus seems to be that the original was substantially better. Unfortunately US remakes of “foreign” movies tends to be made by producers that wants to make some quick cash and are not competent enough to come up with ideas of their own and as a result they are often dumber, sillier and generally not as good as the originals. Now I have not seen the original in this case but it couldn’t really be much worse as far as I am concerned.
This is another one of those movies that I had no idea what it was before I started to watch it. Sometimes you are pleasantly surprised when just jumping onto a movie like that but not this time. I do not like those wobbly handycam style movies where the picture jumps around all the time and this one is exactly one of those movies. It was incredibly tiresome to watch this mess.
Now, if the movie had been really good otherwise the “wobblycam” might have been (almost) acceptable but it really was not. The script was just an illogical mess where people spent most of the time running around screaming while the guy with the “wobblycam” did his best to … wobble around. People were acting totally illogical, especially the “professionals”. A police officer and some firemen encounters a strangely behaving woman with foam around her mouth and extreme sensitivity to light and they just walk up to her and tries to talk soothingly? What kind of nonsense is that? No professionals in their right mind would do anything like that.
After that really poor start the film just went downhill into a nonsensical mess with sporadic outbursts of gore and finally ended in an utterly unsatisfactory and ridiculous ending. It is not often I feel that way after having watched a movie but this time I felt it was a totally wasted evening.
